Developing the Dermatology Education visual identity we focused on the different layers that make up skin. Each layer has its own function and cellular makeup, and dermatological problems can occur on any one of these layers, with visual symptoms occurring outwardly on the surface.

Similarly we saw the education project as the building up of layers of knowledge and experience. These layers have varying characteristics: a "bedrock" foundation layer followed by further layers formed over time and marked by environmental conditions, compression, augmentation and aggregation.

The identity is built on a visual rhyme between imagery from skin cross-section diagrams and stacked "guilloche" patterns used on identity papers, passports and certificates.
